he Zaria 1800 watch movement is a manual wind mechanical caliber developed in the 1950s by the Penza Watch Factory in Russia. It is a small-sized movement measuring approximately 18.4 x 14.0 mm (6 1/4 lignes) with a height of 3.75 mm. Its design reflects the technical state of the art of the 1950s, featuring classic components such as a mainspring barrel, directly driven center minute wheel, third wheel, seconds wheel, and escape wheel. A Swiss pallet lever escapement is used to regulate the movement.

The balance wheel runs at a frequency of 21,600 A/h and was initially a screw balance with evenly spaced screws likely for cosmetic purposes. Later versions replaced this with a simpler anular balance. The beat rate of the balance can be precisely adjusted with a long regulator arm.

One unique feature of the Zaria 1800 is its specially shaped setting lever spring on the dial side, which is secured by three screws and can only be removed by taking out the setting lever spring itself. However, the movement lacks shock protection, which often resulted in balance pivot damage if the watch was subjected to impacts.

The movement has 16 jewels, is manually wound via a yoke winding system, and the balance hairspring operates counterclockwise without a movable stud. The overall construction is solid, reflecting quality watchmaking standards of the time. The caliber gave rise to subsequent modifications like the Zaria 1801 used at the Minsk Watch Factory.

In summary, the Zaria 1800 is notable for:

Small size: 18.4 x 14.0 mm, height 3.75 mm

Manual wind mechanical movement from the 1950s

Swiss pallet lever escapement with 21,600 A/h frequency

Initially screw balance, later anular balance

16 jewel construction, no shock protection

Unique three-screw setting lever spring assembly

Yoke winding system and solid construction

Historical significance as a base for later model 1801

This movement exemplifies mid-20th century Russian watchmaking and remains a distinct classic caliber for collectors and restorers of vintage Zaria watches.
